Common questions
How many hours does homeschool need per year?
It depends entirely on your state, commonly somewhere between 600 and 1,000 instructional hours, or 160 to 180 days, and some states set no requirement at all. Check your own state's rules; this tracker just counts what you tell it to.
What counts as an instructional hour?
Again, state-dependent, but most families count read-alouds, field trips, documentaries, nature study, music practice and life-skills work alongside formal lessons. If it was intentional and educational, it usually counts.
Do I have to log hours daily?
No, but it is far easier than reconstructing a year in April. Two minutes at the end of each day beats a weekend of guessing, and a contemporaneous record is more credible if anyone reviews it.
What should I keep besides hours?
Samples of work, a reading list, test or assessment results if your state requires them, and a short summary per subject. The portfolio checklist above covers it.

Only in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded, and nobody else can see it. Download the CSV if you want a copy you keep.
